OUR PROJECTS
We are thrilled to share with you the culmination of our dedication and passion in a collection of remarkable endeavors. Here, we showcase two of our most recent and innovative focus projects.

While our newest projects take center stage, we cherish the wisdom and experiences gained from the past. Our older projects have paved the way for our current successes, shaping our understanding and fueling our determination to push the boundaries of what's possible.

At IHSTS, we not only initiate and source funding for our projects but also take on a vital stewardship role for selected emerging initiatives, as requested by the BC Ministry of Health. Our organization is proud to provide essential support and oversight for MoH-funded projects during their development stages.

As stewards of these initiatives, we work closely with the project teams, offering guidance, expertise, and resources to ensure their success. Through our collaborative approach, we foster an environment where these projects can flourish and reach their full potential. Over time, as these initiatives mature and grow, they may transition towards a preferred future governance model.

Our commitment to nurturing and empowering these projects allows them to thrive independently, making a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our community. At IHSTS, we are dedicated to driving positive change and creating lasting legacies in healthcare.

Institute for Personalized Therapeutic Nutrition
On World Diabetes Day 2022, the Institute for Personalized Therapeutic Nutrition (IPTN) proudly announced a strategic alliance with the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability (IHSTS). This collaboration aimed to reshape the narrative for millions of Canadians dealing with Type 2 diabetes and those at risk, seeking to influence clinical practices and healthcare policies to make Type 2 diabetes remission a viable option for all patients.
The alliance with IHSTS aims to expedite training programs, accelerate the translation of research knowledge into practice, and eliminate barriers to making Therapeutic Nutrition accessible through primary care.
IPTN CEO, Sean McKelvey, highlights their work in mobilizing the health professional community around personalized Therapeutic Nutrition: “Through our alliance with the IHSTS, we look forward to rolling out training programs for health professionals sooner, moving new knowledge from research into practice faster, and removing barriers to making Therapeutic Nutrition accessible to patients through family doctors and other health professionals working in primary care.”
IPTN, in collaboration with the University of British Columbia, is conducting a groundbreaking clinical study demonstrating that individuals with Type 2 diabetes can reduce or eliminate the need for medications through Therapeutic Nutrition, emphasizing the urgency to prioritize this food-first approach for better health outcomes and cost control in diabetes-related healthcare.
Canadian Indian Network Society
The South Asian Women's type 2 Diabetes Round Table, held on October 27, 2023, stands as a pivotal initiative in the collaborative efforts of the Canadian India Network Society (CINS) and the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability (IHSTS).
This third session underscored the urgency of addressing the significantly elevated risk of type 2 diabetes among South Asian Canadians, particularly focusing on the crucial role of women within this demographic.
With cultural nuances influencing health decisions and behavior change across generations, South Asian women grapple with multifaceted challenges in managing their own diabetes amidst familial responsibilities and societal expectations. The round table, structured as an online focus group, provided a platform for eight participants to share their lived experiences, contributing to a nuanced understanding of barriers, challenges, and potential solutions.
The outcomes of this session not only shed light on the diverse and complex landscape of type 2 diabetes within the South Asian Canadian population but also furnish actionable insights for tailoring diabetes care strategies.
As we delve into the comprehensive summary, the round table emerges as a vital step toward redefining approaches to diabetes prevention, self-management, and alleviating the burdens faced by South Asian women in their healthcare journey.
